The Isle of Wight (known to the ancient Romans as Vectis) is a county, and the largest island of England. The Isle of Wight is located about 4 mi. (6 km.) off the coast of Hampshire in the English Channel. The Isle of Wight is separated from mainland Great Britain by The Solent strait.
